March 18
What a wonderful warm day we had Saturday! Warm Saturdays mean everyone hangs around a little longer after the walk/run to visit and catch up! After the run, we got to enjoy Julie’s St. Patrick’ cookies and take our picture with the crazy green hats! Julie likes dressing us! Many of you are coming off the marathon season which means you are in transition and a recovery phase. Our goal for this side of the year is to recover, lose some weight (for some of us), and get faster. This is often easier said than done! So, we need to set short term goals. Goal setting is very important during the lazy side of the year! Losing a couple of pounds is very hard doing marathon season because of nothing new and fueling up for those long miles. So, I have come up with a goal for those who need a little motivation: 5lbs. by the 5 Miler!
Five pounds by the 5 Miler, sounds fun! You can participate in two ways: weigh yourself at home and email phyllis@gorunla.com (very safe method) or next Saturday get on the GoRun scale in the trailer. No pigging out this week before the weigh in (you know who I am talking about)! Then the next few weeks we will work on trimming the fat and cleaning up our diet. After these five pounds we will shoot for 4 pounds for the 4 Miler on the 4th! We will draw for prizes for all those who were successful at losing 5 pounds!
The other goal (for some) is getting faster. The bottom line: to run faster you have to run faster! There are a couple ways to increase your speed: long runs (building your base), hill workout, track workouts and running 5k races. You must be willing to breathe hard and get out of your comfort zone. Often runners get too cozy with long slow runs, and then wonder why they have not got any faster. That is a runner’s example of Albert Einstein’s definition for insanity! For each run have a purpose: building your base run, speed workout, or an active rest run.
We have decided on our Fall marathon! We are going to run the Pensacola Half & Full Marathon on November 11. The race and hotels are cheap! We are staying at the Marriot Courtyard on E. Chase St.
Don’t forget: Monday – Track workout, Wednesday – Hill workout, and Saturday we are running Free to Breathe 5k!
Just as with anything GoRun, your speed does not matter to us. GoRun is a family and we support each other no matter your goal or speed. We celebrate every Saturday and every extra workout because you have the courage to get healthy!
Running and walking is a gift, therefore Train Hard, Train Smart: pro-stretch, roll that ITBand, and train with easy and hard days!
